International Writers Series: Sam Zamrik Online

Join us for a special International Writers Series event with Syrian poet Sam Zamrik. They will be joined in conversation by Sarah Koellner, Assistant Professor of German.

Sam Zamrik, born in Damascus, Syria, is a queer Syrian poet and political educator in exile in Berlin, Germany. They are co-founder of Damascus University’s first-ever poetry club and have taken part in several panel discussions on poetry, language, and politics and performed at key German venues, universities, and festivals such as Humboldt University, Literature House Berlin, International Literature Festival Berlin, House of World Cultures, and the People’s Theater Berlin. Zamrik’s debut poetry collection ICH BIN NICHT (I Am Not) was published in October 2022 by Hanser Berlin Publishing House. They are the inaugural recipient of the Wunderblock Award for Distinguished Artists.

The International Writers Series is a collaboration between the International Writers track of the Program in Comparative Literature and the Washington University Libraries to celebrate new publications of creative works by writers and translators in the Washington University in St. Louis community and beyond. The discussions are moderated by Matthias Goeritz, Professor of Practice of Comparative Literature.
