Doing Community Based Research with GIS In-Person

The purpose of this workshop is to give a general overview of the process of using GIS in community-based research projects along with various GIS tools and applications that can be utilized when doing this kind of research. In the first half of the workshop, participants will learn about the various factors that need to be taken in consideration when integrating GIS in a community-based research project. Examples of such factors are determining the relationship between the researcher(s) and the community partners along with choosing the appropriate GIS tools for the project given the context and partnership. Finally, this workshop will go over issues of dissemination and sustainability of these projects.
